OUR APPROACH
The work is not a technique. It is a way of seeing.
At Avela, we don't believe something is wrong with you. We believe something happened to you — and that the patterns you carry made complete sense when they formed. Our work is to find that logic together, and to examine whether it still serves you.
The Foundation
Three frameworks shape how we understand the people who come to us.
Relational Psychodynamic Theory holds that change happens through relationship — not through what is said, but through what is experienced, consistently, over time. The therapeutic relationship is not the container for the work. It is the work.
Attachment Theory tells us that the nervous system is a relational organ. It learned what to expect from other people early — whether connection was safe, whether needs would be met, whether love was reliable. That learning shapes everything that follows. Our work creates the conditions for the nervous system to learn something different.
Schema Therapy gives us the clinical map. The deeply held beliefs that formed when core needs went unmet. The parts that protect, attack, comply, or shut down in response. The Healthy Adult that can hold all of it — and the sovereign self waiting underneath.
These are not three separate things we do. They are three ways of seeing the same person simultaneously.
The Work
The work at Avela moves through three phases — not on a schedule, but at the pace of the nervous system.
Root builds the foundation. Safety, trust, and the beginning of understanding that this room is different from other rooms.
Reveal goes deeper. Into the patterns, where they came from, and why they made complete sense given what you lived through.
Rise is sovereignty embodied. Not the absence of the wound — but a self large enough to hold it.
This is not a protocol. It cannot be applied. It has to be inhabited — by the clinician, and by the person doing the work. That is what Avela offers. Not a fix. A return.
